Human Resource Managers Need to Take Note

Due to changes in state labor laws, employers in the following states must provide new, updated labor law posters as required by law and enforced by the Dept of Labor. As you can see below, these changes have occurred in many states. The deadline for new posters is quickly approaching.   • Arkansas Minimum Wage – Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The Arkansas Minimum Wage poster has been updated to reflect an increase in the state’s minimum wage. The minimum wage will increase from $6.25 to $7.50 per hour effective January 1, 2015, $8.00 per hour on January 1, 2016, and $8.50 per hour on January 1, 2017.
  • Arizona Minimum Wage – Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The Arizona Minimum Wage poster has been updated to reflect an increase in the minimum wage rate from $7.90 per hour to $8.05 per hour effective January 1, 2015.
  • California Fair Employment – Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The California Fair Employment poster has been updated to reflect new protected categories. The California Fair Employment and Housing Act has been amended to extend workplace discrimination protections to unpaid interns. The law was also amended to provide that national origin discrimination includes discrimination on the basis of an individual possessing a driver’s license despite an individual’s inability to submit satisfactory proof that his or her presence in the United States is authorized under federal law.
  • California Paid Sick Leave – Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The California Paid Sick Leave poster has been released by the California Department of Industrial Relations. The new law requires employers to grant employees, including some part-time and temporary employees, at least three paid sick days each year.
  • Florida Minimum Wage – Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The Florida Minimum Wage poster has been updated to reflect an increase in the state minimum wage. The state minimum wage will increase from $7.93 per hour to $8.05 per hour effective January 1, 2015. The minimum wage for tipped employees will also increase from $4.91 per hour to $5.03 per hour.
  • Hawaii Minimum Wage – Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The Hawaii Minimum Wage poster has been updated to reflect an increase to the minimum wage rate. The minimum wage rate has increased from $7.25 an hour to $7.75 an hour effective January 1, 2015. The minimum wage will also increase to $8.50 an hour effective January 1, 2016, $9.25 an hour effective January 1, 2017 and $10.10 an hour effective January 1, 2018.
  • Maryland Minimum Wage – Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The Maryland Minimum Wage poster has been updated to reflect the new minimum wages effective in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. The Maryland minimum wage will increase from $7.25 an hour to $8.00 an hour effective January 1, 2015, $8.25 an hour on July 1, 2015, to $8.75 an hour on July 1, 2016, $9.25 an hour on July 1, 2017, and $10.10 an hour on July 1, 2018.
  • Missouri Minimum Wage – Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The Missouri Minimum Wage poster has been updated to reflect an increase in the state minimum wage. The state minimum wage will increase from $7.50 an hour to $7.65 an hour effective January 1, 2015. The minimum wage employers must pay tipped employees will also increase from $3.75 an hour to $3.825 an hour.
  • Montana Minimum Wage– Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The Montana Minimum Wage poster has been updated to reflect a new minimum wage rate effective January 1, 2015. The Montana minimum wage will increase from $7.90 to $8.05 an hour based on the cost-of-living adjustment.
  • New Jersey Minimum Wage – Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The New Jersey Minimum Wage poster has been updated to reflect an increase in the state minimum wage rate. The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development increased the minimum wage from $8.25 an hour to $8.38 an hour effective January 1, 2015.
  • Ohio Minimum Wage – Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The Ohio Minimum Wage poster has been updated to reflect a new minimum wage rate effective January 1, 2015. The Ohio minimum wage rate will increase from $7.95 per hour to $8.10 per hour for non-tipped employees and from $3.98 per hour to $4.05 per hour for tipped employees plus tips. The increased minimum wage will apply to employees of businesses with annual gross receipts in excess of $297,000 per year.
  • Oregon Minimum Wage – Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The Oregon Minimum Wage poster has been updated to reflect a new minimum wage rate effective January 1, 2015. The Oregon minimum wage rate will increase from $9.10 an hour to $9.25 an hour.
  • Rhode Island Minimum Wage – Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The Rhode Island Minimum Wage poster has been updated to reflect an increase to the state’s minimum wage. The minimum wage rate will increase from $8.00 an hour to $9.00 an hour effective January 1, 2015.
  • Vermont Minimum Wage – Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The Vermont Minimum Wage poster has been updated to reflect an increase to the state’s minimum wage. The minimum wage will increase from $8.73 an hour to $9.15 an hour effective January 1, 2015, $9.60 on January 1, 2016, $10.00 on January 1, 2017, and $10.50 on January 1, 2018. The basic wage rate for service and tipped employees also increased to $4.58 an hour, with a maximum tip credit allowance of $4.57 an hour effective January 1, 2015.
  • West Virginia Minimum Wage – Compliance Deadline January 1, 2015: The West Virginia Minimum Wage poster has been updated to reflect an increase to the state’s minimum wage. The minimum wage rate will increase from $7.25 an hour to $8.00 an hour effective January 1, 2015, and $8.75 an hour effective on January 1, 2016. Increases to the training wage for the first 90 days of employment and minimum wage credits for tipped employees will also increase for 2015 and 2016.
